So, for Christmas, I asked my family for a few select cookbooks and guess what? I GOT THEM.
I spent the whole week after Christmas dreaming of delicious, homemade goodies, and some of the recipes that intrigued me most where those from The Mile End Cookbook.
This is a Jewish comfort food cookbook, and I'll be honest: the closest I've come to making anything remotely Jewish was a Seder experience in college, and I'm not even sure how authentic it was. But the recipes in this book are easy-to-understand, the conversational tone is endearing, and the photos look INCREDIBLE.
I first got turned on to it from the review in Food and Wine magazine and the New Yorker, both writers who actually know what they're talking about and are more convincing than I am, so you might want to click over for those reviews also.
If you have a holiday gift card to a bookstore and want some new recipes (smoked fish sandwiches and potato latkes, anyone?) this is a fun adventurous cookbook to try. (Also, if you are familiar with Jewish cooking I'd be interested to know what you think of their versions!)
