Did you know you should be storing your spices away from light, heat, humidity, and air? Well you should be. Which means the spice rack above the stove in my parent's house may seem convenient, but it's really pretty useless. They keep matching glass spice jars in there for decoration. It also means those pretty counter top spice racks that you might put next to your window? Not the best place either.
I personally have a spice storage solution that I love. One day when my mom was going through her kitchen stuff she found an old spice rack box that hangs on the wall. So I promptly took it to my house and put it up. Not only does it save me some cabinet space, it tells what different spices are traditionally used for. Fun right? I think so.
Here's what it looks like closed:

Obviously this wouldn't be everyone's style, but it works well for me.
Where do you store your spices? Does it work well for you?

I hung a spice rack on the inside door of my pantry - it is the perfect place for everything including oils, vinegars and spices, and is still within easy reach of my stove area. Thank goodness for a smart kitchen layout!

I have an in-drawer spice rack that I bought from Williams Sonoma. I love it. One of my favorite kitchen things.

Our spices are in one of our cabinets and take up a whole shelf. Considering our serious lack of cabinet space I am totally coveting a special cabinet like this just for spices. On to Etsy and ebay!

Our spices take up one shelf in our pantry...there are a LOT of them, in containers of all shapes and sizes, so a rack would never begin to hold them all. I do think the racks are adorable, though! :)
