I find that there are many food controversies out there, especially related to holiday food. Pumpkin or pecan pie? Should fruitcake be considered a cake? (NO. it should not even be considered.) Is it okay to cook the stuffing in the turkey? And then there's nog. People seem VERY divided on the issue of egg nog. Either they love it or despise it. I personally love it. However, I only love it in this form:

Straight from the carton. None of this homemade spiked stuff. I know lots of people like their nog with rum and freshly grated nutmeg, but I find it sort of revolting. Maybe it's not---dare I say it----artificial enough, but whatever it is, I much prefer the store bought kind to anything else. However, with the store bought kind, you apparently have an array of flavor choices. Did you know there's caramel egg nog? Cinammon? Pumpkin? SUGAR COOKIE? (barf)
What about you, Food Lushers? What's your opinion of nog? Is it part of your holiday tradition, or is it not allowed within 10 feet of your house?

My husband loves it and makes a point to buy it once a season. He can't do a lot of dairy so he might have a little for a few nights, or have one big glass and be done. But he has to have it. I, on the other hand, cannot abide the nog. Bailey's in coffee? That's a different story.

I love the carton stuff too - I usually get the low fat TG Lee version, which I find delicious (and of course low fat is relative)

I only like it if it has rum or bourbon in it. I've never had homemade though.

I looooovved it when I was growing up and it was one of the things I looked forward to every year. But as an adult? I think I can drink about 3 ozs and then I'd be good for another year, so I never buy a whole container. Probably better that way for my poor waist line!

Oh we love egg nog in our house! We get milk delivery from a local creamery and there's is fantastic! It's so rich and creamy and tasty. We usually have it with bourbon and nutmeg on top and I like whipped cream too.

Carton nog, all the way.
I've been off the dairy, egg nog doesn't count. Mmmmm.

I prefer homemade, although I won't turn down the store-bought stuff. And I just came across this recipe for an egg nog cake that I had to share: http://www.thekitchn.com/holiday-recipe-whipped-eggnog-loaf-cake-recipes-from-the-kitchn-181026?utm_campaign=topblock&utm_medium=web&utm_source=main-entry
I think I need to try it at some point before Christmas!

I love the carton stuff, but I can only stand a tiny bit at a time if it's straight. I actually cut mine with ginger ale. Yummy.

My Dad puts 7up in his. It's good. But I prefer it straight of out the carton as well. I am also a sucker for egg nog flavored milkshakes/blizzards, etc.

mmmm... I loved the store-bought stuff in any form but then I tried the stuff from our local creamery and I can't go back. It's amazing.
Also, I never liked homemade, boozy stuff until I tried it at an upscale bar known for making everything (from bitters to sodas) from scratch. It was like nothing I've ever had before. Not that I'm going to try to recreate it at home, but I'll order it there again this year.
