I've posted about okra in this space before, but neglected to include it in its most appealing form: pickled and floating in an icy bath of tomato juice and liquor. In honor of my recent trip to New Orleans, a city that truly appreciates the restorative qualities of this spicy red hair of the dog, here (in no particular order) are ten tasty extras that are welcome in my next Bloody Mary.
- Celery
- Olive
- Hot sauce
- Pickled green bean
- Pickled okra
- Pickled tiny corn-on-the-cob, if there is such a thing
- Pickle
- Ginormous straw (hello, Hash House!)
- Cracked pepper
- Extra shot of vodka
What is your favorite Bloody Mary garnish?

All of the above, please and thank you!

Erica, I am so glad you asked what my favorite garnish is! I like a thick cut piece of bacon.

All of the above and shrimp (but without the face and legs, because, no.)

Every single thing they put in the bloody mary at Smoke in Dallas. I think everything they use is in-house pickled. Soooo Good.
