I'm sure I've talked about this before, but when my husband and I travel, we tend to choose Food or Travel network-featured restaurants to dine at. Not always--we were just at an IHOP this past weekend when we traveled to California because all of our usually-awesome food apps failed us--but whenever we can, we stop in a local place that comes well-endorsed by food/travel shows we like.
I love when that choice offers up an incredible meal.
For instance, Mike really wanted to stop in Slater's 50/50 while in Anaheim this past week and I'm so glad I said "sure!" because it was fantastic.
While the menu had delicious items (the onion rings were really good, for example) and also really interesting items (a burger with peanut butter and jelly on it, I kid you not), the big draw (for me) is designing your own burger. You choose your patty, your bun, your cheese, your sauces, and your toppings, and then your own, customized burger arrives in front of you.
I got a veggie patty topped with a bunch of deliciousness (avocado mash, chipotle mayo, fried egg, grilled onions, jalapenos) and this burger was outstanding. It also required a fork to eat it but it was vacation after all.
The beers on tap were cold and delicious, as well. (I had two!)
Seriously, if you're in the area, stop in. I'll just be over here adding the best burger on the planet to the list of reasons to get back to Southern California as soon as possible.

My hubster LOVES Slater's! Glad you got to try it. :)

I live about 30 minutes from that particular Slater's, and it's a good dang thing that it's not much closer because I'd be there ALL THE TIME. I've never had a better burger in my life. The 50/50 burger (half bacon half beef) is amazing all by itself. Top it with nearly anything you can imagine? Heaven on a plate. I also highly recommend trying the Vampire Dip appetizer (or getting a side of it for your fries). It's amazing. I've never had anything at Slater's I didn't like.

What food apps do you use?
