I've mentioned that I'm entering the Pillsbury Bake-Off and this means I'm experimenting with recipes all over the place. I'm going to share one with you that I don't think is a million dollar winner, but is damn tasty nonetheless.
Ingredients:
2 cans of crescent rolls
1 8oz package of cream cheese at room temp.
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
3/4 tsp vanilla
1 tsp sour cream
Optional: pie filling or fruit preserves of your choice
Icing:
1 cup confectioner's sugar
1 tbsp milk
1 tbsp softened butter
Preheat the oven to 350.
Open the crescent rolls carefully to avoid unrolling or tearing the dough. You'll need to leave it in it's cylindrical shape. Slice the dough into pieces about 1/4 inch thick (as though you're slicing cookie dough). Place the slices on a cookie sheet and press the center in to make an indentation for the cream cheese filling.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the cream cheese, white sugar, lemon juice, vanilla and sour cream. Add a dollop of the mixture to the indentation you made in each circle of dough. I find that about a tbsp works well, but you can use as little or as much as you like. If you like fruit with your danish, you can also add it to the rolls before the cream cheese mixture. (I like cherry pie filling or blackberry preserves, personally.) Bake for 15 - 20 minutes.
While the danish are baking, you can make a quick royal icing to drizzle over the tops. Mix together the confectioner's sugar, milk and butter in a small bowl. You can use a spoon to drizzle it over the tops of the danish, or you can put it into a small zip-top bag and snip of the corner for an easy "piping bag." Take the danish out of the oven and allow them to cool for 10-15 minutes before icing.
Voila! Cream cheese danish without leaving the house or breaking a sweat.

I have been making these forever and everyone always loves them. I love how easy they are to prepare.

Just made these...didn't have the ingredients for the filling so I just put a dollop of raspberry jam in the middle, they were delicious!

I've been making a version of these for years. I think they are delicious! I like the cherry pie filling or either cherry or strawberry preserves.
Thanks for reminding me about these -

ok so i made these last night and they tasted really good..but looked absolutely nothing like the picture lol not really sure if i used the wrong crescent rolls or something .. they just looked like bite size flat crescent biscuits with a ball of filling on top lol when they came out of the oven i had to smoosh the filling down lol...any advice for next time?...

Shelly, I'm assuming you unrolled the dough. The directions say to slice the ROLL into 1/4 inch pieces. DO NOT UNROLL. They should have a swirled appearance like a cinnamon roll, I'd say. Hope that helps!

Keep the crescents rolled up and cut with dental floss to keep the discs nice and round. I used some leftover cream cheese filling for cupcakes that had mini chocolate chips and (thawed) frozen raspberries mixed in, and drizzled them with dark chocolate ganache, also leftover from the cupcakes.

Is the amount of sour cream correct? Just one TEASPOON??

They now make ROUND crescent rolls, which made my life even easier! I can't say how the recipe is yet, but they're in the oven and the filling was so easy to make! :D Can't wait to taste it!

HOLY COW! My two girls and I hurt ourselves eating these. A win at my house! I didn't have lemon juice, so I substituted lime and I made the mistake of adding 1 tbsp of sour cream, but they were still delicious! SO GOOD! I'm going to make these a lot!

These were amazing! I made some yesterday and took them with me to a brunch and everyone loved them! Thank you for posting this recipe. These will definitely be making a reappearance at our house!

You had me at cream cheese! I would ignore lemon and add cinnamon instead. Everything is better with cinnamon!

These are awesome and so easy to make! I had leftover filling and I just added confectioner sugar and vanilla for the icing! Thank you for sharing.

I would recommend cutting them in 1/2 in. slices, instead of 1/4 in. I left mine rolled up and I would have to agree with the commenter that said they looked like "flat discs". Since I cut them in 1/4 in. slices like the directions said, it also only took 1 can of crescent rolls.

Thank You for this recipy. I will definately try this. You cannot get cream cheese danish in South Africa. They have no idea what I am talking about. Now I can make my own. YAY!!!!!! Now I must just get a recipy to make the cresent roll dough. We cannot buy it canned.

I followed this recipe to the "T" so to speak and my end result looks nothing like the picture. The crescent rolls need to be sliced at least 1/2 inch thick, I would even go to 1 inch to even come close to looking like the pic. And the drizzle was so thick you couldn't spoon or pipe it over anything. The drizzle needs at least twice the amount of milk and butter to come close to a drizzle or glaze. Very disappointed with this recipe.

Thank you all for posting after you made them. The suggestions are helpful. Just saying yum doesn't tell you if the recipe works or not.

I just made these and they turned out great! I cut the recipe in half as there are only two of us. I cut mine into approx. 1/4 inch slices and they rose up fine. If you are judging by the picture, and have an image in your mind of large store bought danish, then yes, you will think 1/4 inch slices don't look like the picture. Its an extreme close up, with nothing in the background for perspective. (a great picture btw!) These are 2-3 bite danishes, and we loved them! Since they ARE small, next time I will add a teaspoon of the pie filling on top of the cheese filling after cooking, before icing them.
