Reader Question: Homemade Dog Food

I know this blog is largely about people, but I've been seeing some recipes lately for homemade dog food, and I'm intrigued! I have two medium-large dogs, and we go through a lot of dog food!

This is the recipe I've seen used most often. It looks fairly straightforward and simple, and makes 48 cups of food, which for my dogs is about 10 days worth.

Has anybody tried to make your own dog food? Does it even out or come out better price-wise? I wonder if it would make my dogs less, um, gassy?

Your dogs are gorgeous! My mom sometimes makes her own dog food; I'll have to ask for her recipe to compare. What do you feed them now?
