I need your help, dear readers. My son's school, which is a preschool for three and four year olds, is having a family potluck next week. It's a chance for us to meet all his little friends and their parents and get to know his school community better. Here's my dilemma--I have no clue what to bring. I know I'll bring some kind of dessert, maybe brownies or a sheet cake. But what about my dinner offering? Do I go with the typical covered-dish casserole and do a chicken spaghetti? Do I spend the day making lasagna? Given the fact that the majority of the folks I'm cooking for are under five years old... What will please their little palates, yet satisfy the adults, too? Does it even matter? I kind of imagine the kids eating three bites each, then going to play with blocks. Help me out, lushes.

If it were me, I'd probably go with some sort of mac & cheese, maybe some mini-meatballs, or even just some little sandwiches.

I would do a big batch of chicken nuggets with a variety of dippers (but of course don't forget the ketchup!). I like Tara's idea of mini-meatballs. They're trendy right now (if that is possible for food) and there are a million ways to make 'em.

Mini hot dog octopuses? I made those for a moms club party once and they were a hit with the kids. And then you could provide a batch of adult sized hot dogs with buns as well.

Taco meat w/ tortillas, a divided container of toppings, and finger jello.

We just had our preschool picnic and there were LOTS of pasta salad type dishes and very few dessert type dishes. So I think you're on the right track by starting out with something like brownies :) I think some sort of finger food (hot dogs or nuggets) would have been a hit!

What about mini pizzas? Vary the toppings, do some plain. That would go over well with my little dudes, anyway!
