If you haven’t been to a dollar store lately, you might want to take a look. There are lots of great foodie finds, and I don’t mean off-brand cheeses doodles. I routinely buy roasted red peppers, olives, Dijon mustard, spices, and dry goods like beans for so much less than I’d spend in the regular grocery store. And I occasionally pick up some snack treats for the family because when animal crackers and pretzels only cost a buck? I can definitely handle that.
Now, merchandise can vary widely from store to store, but some even carry produce. I once walked out with 6 heads of garlic for a measely dollar, which would have cost at least double elsewhere. The bottom line is the dollar store is a great way to stretch your food budget. Give it a try.

I never have great luck at dollar stores where I live, but while visiting my Aunt in Texas a few years ago I was astonished at how huge and awesome the dollar stores were down there!
