Saturday my husband and I made our bi-monthly pilgrimage to Sam's Club. It was bustling and busy as normal, and they had the sample people out in full force.
Generally speaking, we try to avoid them. It's like we feel obligated to buy whatever they're offering if we take the free sample. We had almost made it into the home stretch (also known as the milk isle) when this caught my husband's eye:
Iced coffee comes in a carton now? He looked a little bewildered. I saw that, lo and behold, they were offering samples (topped with reddi-whip, no less) and told him we should grab samples to see if we like it. He, with his eyes still transfixed on the refrigerated box of joy, didn't notice the sample lady and said that maybe two half-gallons were a little too much to sample.
Needless to say I grabbed him a cup to try and we grabbed the box. This stuff is delicious! I can't make iced coffee. I've tried, but it always turns out too watered down, or just tastes like ice-cold coffee. Granted we're still in the dead of winter here in my neck of the woods and iced coffee isn't exactly what you want first thing on a balmy 20-degree morning, but it's so good I haven't brought myself to mind yet. I can't wait for the weather to really turn warm and sit on the porch with a glass in the morning when hot coffee ceases to sound appealing.
It checks in at 150 calories a cup for the vanilla variety, which is a fair amount when you figure you probably want more than just a cup, but I think it's a great weekend indulgence to start a day off right. Now if only my husband and I can stop fighting over it!
