As a gluten-free person, who eats many meals with a person whose favorite food is pizza, it can be somewhat stressful to find Italian dining options. If I hear "But you can have a salad!" one more time about eating at an Italian eatery, well, it won't be pretty. I don't really care for a hastily prepared iceberg salad with a random pepper and bottled Italian dressing. Luckily, I found Taverna, which is among my favorite Dallas restaurants.
Their risotto will change your life.
I generally order whatever their special risotto of the night is, which usually is topped with scallops and asparagus. I try to make myself eat the meat component of the risotto first, just so I will be sure to have some risotto to take to go (honestly, to eat in a few hours). Their standard menu risottos are also incredible.
All of the food is amazing, but what really keeps me coming back to Taverna is the vacation vibe when you get there. In warm weather, Taverna has a great patio and the interior is a lot like dining in Europe. Any time a restaurant can take me on a little vacation, that will give it a special place in my heart.
