You know, if you're going to spend a few hours and lots of hard-earned dollars on brunch, you might as well go all out, right? Right?
Apparently my honey and I subscribe to this philosophy, as this weekend we went to a fabulous little cafe and got LOBSTER eggs benedict.
Cafe Mimosa, in San Clemente, is indeed the kind of place where you spend upwards of 50 bucks on brunch and relish every bite. But, on a beautiful, 65-degree Southern California day (I know, so spoiled) is there really a good reason to NOT linger over a gourmet breakfast?
The "surprise" mimosas are certainly a reason to hang out, as Cafe Mimosa has 10 or so mimosa flavors and will just keep bringing you delicious surprise bubblies for as long as you can stand it. The cafe is located on Avenida Del Mar in San Clemente's charming little downtown (not far from Nick's) and if you go to brunch on Sunday you can also wander the fresh fruit and veggie and flower stands lining the street for the weekly Farmer's Market. So charming, no?
Cafe Mimosa has a large patio and charming french-American decor, complete with an always packed waiting list. (Word to the wise: make a reservation) My only complaint is that the tables are rather small and fitting a group of more than four would be a feat. Also, WHO brings toddlers to this kind of place? I was very confused by the number of itty-bitty kiddies eating $20 entrees and drinking out of crystal sippy cups, but to each his own, I guess. Anyway.
They make a fabulous latte (a good latte wins my heart every time) and the waitstaff is friendly knowledgable and very welcoming. Basically what I'm saying is, YOU HAVE TO GO, even if you fly here special just for this amazing breakfast. To convince you, I would show you the super awesome picture of the fresh berry and custard-stuffed french toast that I had and LOVED, but somehow my marginal techinical skills have managed to delete my only photo of it.
(Imagine amazing fresh berries and custard and perfectly-prepared ciabatta french toast. Stop drooling, it's weird.)
