Like the rest of the universe, I have resolved to eat healthier this year, as well as be more conscientious of the AMOUNT of food i'm putting in my mouth at any given time. I've made the realization that when I eat healthier, more balanced meals and snacks, I end up craving bad stuff less and eating better as a result. Can I get a big, fat DUH? Thank you.
So right now, here are the snacks I turn to when the afternoon munchies strike (for me, that's about 2:30-3:00 PM).
Crunchy, flavorful, and with a kick, these dried peas will satisfy a craving for chips but also add some heat, which make me eat less of them anyway.
100-Calorie Baked Cheetos Snack Pack
Cheetos are evil. Plain and simple. If I get my hands in a bag, the likelihood is that my fingers will be coated orange for the next few days as evidence of my inability to resist them. However, with these snack packs, I have portion control and I really can't taste the difference between the baked and the regular (unlike other baked varieties of chips).
Lower Sugar Quaker Oatmeal
When i'm REALLY hungry, I turn to oatmeal to fill me up. The Maple and Brown Sugar is my favorite, and it satisfies my sweet tooth and my empty tummy. Sometimes i'll throw a few raisins or dried cranberries in there, too.
Laughing Cow Cheese Wedge with whole grain crackers
I have written about the wonder of these Laughing Cow Cheese Wedges before, and they still do not dissapoint me. Six crackers and one wedge equals a pretty substantial snack, and the fact that you're eating multigrains doesn't hurt either. I absolutely love all the Laughing Cow flavors they offer now---my new obsession is their Light Queso Fresco and Chipotle.
