Sometimes I make an impulse buy at Home Goods because it's $3.99 and seems like it may be useful. Then I come home and look around and say to myself, "really? like we need anymore junk in the utensils drawer." But, a few times I strike gold. Here are three new-ish things in my kitchen:
...and why I like them.
Mandoline - Do you need a mandoline? No, unless you make scalloped potatoes everynight. But, this thing rocks. It's super sharp, has three different slicing sizes and is generally a good idea if you actually DO make a lot of dishes that require hours of slicing vegetables. I ordered mine from Amazon.
Citrus Squeezer - Ok you probably already have one of these. We make a lot of meals with lemon and lime juice and have always just suffered through the squeezing by hand. I bought this at Giant for $5 the other day. It's a really hefty metal squeezer and works great so far. Plus, it's LIME GREEN.
Egg Slicer - Slicing up eggs can be a huge pain and gets very messy. I use this when I make egg salad or toppings for salads. It's not just for eggs. I've used it for mushrooms and strawberries. Just don't put it in the dishwasher.
So there you have it. Everytime I remember I have one of these things and actually use it, I feel like a genius chef!
Tell me about your new/old surprisingly favorite kitchen accessories!

Can you share what brand/model the mandoline is? I have been looking for one because I recently purchased a microwave potato chip maker and I simply cannot slice a potato as thin (and evenly) as required for the chips. I'm looking for a reasonably priced one that works well.

Sure, here is the one I have. I ordered it from Amazon based on the good reviews. It's usually around $20.

Also, microwave potato chip maker? That sounds like fun!

Why can't you put the egg slicer in the dishwasher?
Best part of that citrus juicer is that it inverts the lime or lemon half which guarantees complete juicage (should be a work).
