We had a family potluck lunch for Mother's Day today. My step-sister put me in charge of dessert, declaring "that way, you can try a new recipe!" She knows me so well.
Besides being one of my favorite flavor combinations, I find blueberry and lemon to be a refreshing Spring option for desserts. I took to twitter to ask for recommendations and was pointed to many, many delicious looking options. I chose to try these blueberry crumb bars from Smitten Kitchen. The only change I made to her recipe was using the zest and juice of two smallish lemons instead of one. The resultant bar is slightly sweet with a wonderful bright flavor. Everyone raved about them at lunch today and I was told to bring them to every family function from now on. I'd call that a success.
